He served with the 98th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 1st Corporal, Company C from August 1862 to June 1865. Admitted to the bar in the fall of 1865. Began practicing law in Beardstown in the spring of 1866.

Attorney and Judge. Born July 12, 1839, Belmont Co., Ohio; died July 27, 1899, Perry Co. AR. Civil War Service: 98th Ohio Infantry, 1st Corporal; Aug 7, 1863 to June 1, 1865. Admitted to the Bar fall of 1865. Son of Dr. Thomas Harlan Purviance and Sarah Maxson.
